About the World of Learning

The World of Learning Institute

At World Of Learning we work with a group of people to provide offerings and opportunities that they don't have.  We started with World Languages and expanded to core subjects and credit recovery (find these offerings here). We build Open Education Resources, Customized Learning Experiences, and professional learning.  We train teachers to build relationships in virtual environments for all areas of instruction and services so learners get what they need.

We start by building relationships. Our team works hard to support all learners. We model for our instructors how to engage with learners using effective practices for teaching in a virtual environment. In addition, our online mentors support our learners and instructors. They work to set goals and measure progress. They are our chief inspirers!

As a provider of course enrollments and professional learning we know it's important that we are flexible enough to match your learners’ schedule(s). So, we offer several types of schedules at a variety of prices to match your needs. We are flexible about scheduling, but we will not compromise when it comes to learning.

Practice Becoming

Practice Becoming “. . . Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what's inside you, to make your soul grow”.                       Kurt Vonnegut We are back at it folks! Excited to be working with teachers and learners! Teachers are amazing. I get the good fortune to meet lots of them in our World of Learning. What I know is that they are practicing all the time. I see them working hard at practicing the art of teaching as they learn new tasks and share professional learning each summer. I have the good fortune to work with amazing teachers at IU8’s World of Learning and as I support school districts through our Open Campus Initiative. I talk to people who care about learners, as people, every...

Don't Hurry - Enjoy 2019

As I sat in my usual morning spot, on January 1, 2019 I had to force myself not to hurry. Hurrying has been part of my DNA for as long as I can remember! Don’t be late. Try the new thing first. Don’t get left out. Yet, my morning routine of reading a passage by Marv and Nancy Hiles in The Almanac for the Soul, started the year with the call to “Take thought in the silence of your heart’. Most of us spend little time in silence, and even less times away from a screen, including me. Longing to get outside and take a walk I fell into hurrying, again. Stopping and starting my brain - drifting into the work week. Thinking about my resolutions. Last year I resolved to read two books, preferably non-fiction, each month. The internet and work have taken me away from reading for pleasure and I wanted to feel the excitement of visiting places and times I have not been. Using the NYTimes Book List, PBS and asking friends and family helped me to find titles that were well worth the read and ...

Learning Together

"It is never enough, it seems to me, to teach a child mere information." (Eleanor Roosevelt) We just completed a three day learning event at IU8 that we called World of Learning Adventure . Teachers who have been a part of a the World Language Network at IU8 came together to learn about how to use virtual resources with the specific goals of “creating a variety of experiences for learners, exploring ways to engage learners, finding and sharing new resources, and to learn from each other.” We didn’t just talk about the content, we talked about really connecting with learners, going 'beyond information". It was awesome! It was aptly called an Adventure and was a good way to describe the journey we took. The intensity that the teachers brought to this experience set the stage for a great three days. We began by introducing and expanded learning ecosystem that is at the center of Mass Customized Learning (Schwann and McGarvey). We explored Open Educational Reso...
